BASICC needs
When someone is emotionally upset, they are usually feeling a threat to one of their BASICC I created this framework as a response to the SCARF framework from David Rock, which I felt didn’t adequately address the identity triggers of competence or character
human needs: The order here loosely follows Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, although we re-ordered the first three because BASICC is a better acronym than SABICC
| Belonging | They want to be part of a group |
| Agency | They want to have ability to change their situation |
| Stability | They want their situation to be predictable |
| Importance | They want to be valued by others |
| Competence | They want to be capable and achieve goals |
| Character | They want to be morally good |
When empathizing with someone to listen to them and see if you can can label their emotion and underlying human need.
