Coaching convo about influence

Laura the leader mentioned her plan to socialize the a proposal with Pratik her Peer: she was gonna email him and his managers, and cc Brinda (their mutual boss).

Friend: “is that the most effective way for you to get his support?” Laura: “I want to keep Brinda aware to prep for the case he doesn’t engage and I need her support to make it happen”

Friend: “is that what Brinda suggested?”

Laura: “Brinda said she wouldn’t get to it until next week, but in the meantime I could socialize with my peers”

Friend: “is this the most effective way to do that?”

Laura: “I don’t have anything else, unless you have suggestions?”

Friend: “I’d be worried about opening with Brinda on the chain; that makes it a status game. Do you have a 1:1 with him?”

Laura: “yes, but he always cancels”

Friend: “what if you sent him the doc now and asked to talk about it during the 1:1?”

Laura: “oh, I’ll do that right now”
